Massillon Main Street's funding request is primarily concerned with the development and implementation of programs designed to alleviate the causes of slum and blight in our downtown area.

• Increase employment levels in the downtown area

  a) Campaign to attract new businesses to the downtown area

b) Work to expand employment levels in existing businesses for moderate to low income persons.

• Orchestrate restoration activities of physical structures

a) Manage existing facade restoration program

b) Create and manage an interior restoration program

c) Create and manage a roof restoration program

d) Create and manage a sidewalk restoration program

e) Enforce the restoration guidelines established by the Massillon Historic Preservation Committee.

• Continue downtown cleanup using Community Workers
• Attract local investment in downtown properties
• Work with Park Department and private organizations in developing a green space program
• Work to develop affordable housing in the downtown area
• Work to implement programs to alleviate parking problems in the downtown area
• Coordinate and implement downtown promotional events, clean-up programs in coordination with the Massillon Chamber of Commerce and the Downtown Massillon Association
• Promote public awareness of downtown
• Create a positive environment for business in the downtown area
• Work to increase the quality of life of the people of Massillon through an increased effort to promote cultural events
