Massillon IS Alive with events and activities for the young and old. The Massillon Alive brochure, listing 150 community events for 2006, is now available in the Massillon Area Chamber of Commerce office, Massillon Public Library, and the Lions Lincoln Theatre.
2006 marks the thirteenth year of “Massillon Alive,” Massillon’s exciting schedule of events. This year’s calendar is filled with concerts, car events, tours, historic and cultural activities, luncheons, sports, and festivals.
Among the major events listed are the Fun Fest, the Cruise-On-In and Dance Party, Summertime on Fourth Street, RezzyFest, and the Community Candlelight Walk. Summer Concerts and Duncan Plaza Concerts are conveniently listed on the back panel as well as in chronological order.
Massillon Alive, under the auspices of the Massillon Area Chamber of Commerce, helps community leaders, non-profit organizations, and event organizers work together to celebrate the positive qualities of the town, to promote community spirit, and to publicize local events. It provides a format to avoid scheduling conflicts, to inform area residents of activities, and helps draw tourists to the town.
The Chamber committee, with the sponsorship of KeyBank and Massillon Community Hospital, Doctors Hospital and Canton Convention and Visitors Bureau, has published the 24-page color brochure containing a schedule of events through December. The calendar includes events sponsored by non-profit organizations. 15,000 copies of the free brochure will be distributed throughout Stark and surrounding counties.
Massillon/Westark Tourism Council, through a grant from the Canton Convention and Visitors Bureau, sponsored the restaurant guide sections which is incorporated into the brochure. It lists 46 restaurants, 22 pizzerias, and 28 fast food opportunities. Three local sites are listed as accommodations. Nine local attractions are listed.
Brochures will be available by May 1st at the Stark County Convention and Visitors Bureau information center, the Akron Canton Airport visitors center, restaurants and hotels, and other tourist information sites. The events are also posted on the community calendar
Massillon Alive 2006 chairman Margy Vogt designed the brochure in cooperation with Bates Printing. The Chamber staff helps compile the information; Massillon Main Street president Don Harwig and volunteer Diana Parker lead the distribution effort.
